Scott Cohen

President and Garden Artisan

Scott Cohen is the creative force behind The Green Scene, one of the fastest-growing outdoor design and construction firms in the Los Angeles area. Scott’s passion for design began as a boyhood fascination with sculpture, drawing, architecture and gardening. At the age of 15, he started his own successful landscape maintenance business and began to self-teach many of the innovative landscaping methods he still uses today—more than two decades later— at The Green Scene.

Since Scott took over as President in 1995, The Green Scene’s volume of business has increased ten fold with no end in sight. That growth can be attributed to Scott’s unique approach to creating designs that reflect the personalities of the homeowners as well as the attributes of the home and yard. A four-page “Getting-To-Know-You” questionnaire allows Scott to incorporate the hobbies and interests of the homeowners into his designs to give each a truly personalized project.

An accomplished ceramicist and sculptor, he specializes in custom-designed tiles and sculptures that add imaginative personal touches to the yard—once even body-casting a client to create a life-like mermaid sculpture for her pool. His artistic abilities and years of creating innovative designs have given him the uncanny ability to visualize a dramatic showplace within moments of entering a yard, often beginning his first sketches as his clients discuss their wish list of amenities.

Unlike many other designers, Scott is a licensed contractor in landscape, pool and general construction, enabling him to service every phase of a project. He is constantly pushing the envelope with new construction techniques and developing his management systems to deliver unparalleled workmanship and professionalism to his clients.

A Master’s Of Design Award winner, Scott has been featured on HGTV’s Landscaper’s Challenge, Designing for the Sexes, and their newest show, Get Out, Way Out!, as well as in numerous local and national print media, such as The Daily News, Signature Pools and Outdoors, Pool and Spa News, Woman’s Day and Better Homes and Gardens. He is member of the Contractors Board Industry Expert Program, and continues to lobby for ethical Workers’ Compensation practices in the construction industry.
